Palma Nova & Magalluf
These were among the biggest of the resorts of the boom era of the 70's
and 80's, and had gained a reputation as being the 'liveliest' of areas.
The Council, however, has worked hard over the last ten years or so to rid
the resorts of the poor image that was created back then, and visitors to
Palma Nova and Magalluf confirm that indeed, Peace Has Been Declared! The
Police have been given wide-ranging powers to close down noisy nightspots
and have done so in the past. Bars have sound-limiting devices installed
that switch off the music if it gets too loud, and all doors and windows
in these sound-proofed venues have to be closed at midnight on the dot.
The evening entertainment is now limited to two very closely monitored
streets in Magalluf, and Palma Nova no longer caters for the Disco set –
classy restaurants, terrace bars and late-night shopping prevails.
The property prices, too, reflect the fact that the area has indeed
gone 'upmarket' due to the improvements attained by the millions that have
been spent. The beaches are wide and clean, the sea water is tested daily
for cleanliness and there are all the services, security and
infrastructure one would expect from a modern, 21st century
holiday-residential coastal town.
Magalluf itself offers some excellent investment opportunities for
buyers looking to rent their properties while not using them themselves,
and both resorts have many very upmarket, quality homes the prices of
which reflect the fact that they are only 15 minutes by car to Palma City.
The area is home to two major Water Fun Parks, the famous 'Pirates'
show and there is lots of entertainment available too. A new Multiplex
cinema complex, with shopping and dining facilities, is shortly to be
built in the centre of Magalluf, which will certainly have a positive
effect on property prices.
