Sol de Mallorca & Portals Vells
Sol de Mallorca is one of the oldest developments in Calviá County,
and has, as its centre, the prestigious Gran Casino de Mallorca. Very
residential & tranquil, the property prices are high-end and there are
many very exclusive villas in Sol de Mallorca.
Similarly, Portals Vells is a little Marina close to the Casino, around
which there are only a few, exclusive apartment developments.
Son Ferrer
The urbanisation of Son Ferrer has its roots in the tourist boom of the
70's, when local workers needed reasonably-priced accommodation close
enough to the tourist resorts of Magalluf, Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa.
Local construction companies obtained permission to erect low-rise
apartment blocks in the then-agricultural, fertile fields of Sa Porrassa,
between Magalluf and El Toro, and Son Ferrer was born. Economically-priced
flats were constructed to accommodate the local workforce, but unlike the
UK, no 'Council' housing was (or is) available, so these apartments were
purchased with either low-cost mortgages or with Government assistance.
30 years on and the then-waiters, cooks, cleaners, mechanics and
bricklayers have gone on to open their own businesses, moved out of the
apartments and built villas in their home town of Son Ferrer - and so
today, the village has a wide selection of properties to suit all tastes.
Being just a few kilometres inland, the property prices are a little
lower, and Son Ferrer offers a very international atmosphere with a high
percentage of ex-pat Brits. Still, the village retains a real 'Spanish'
flavour, especially at fiesta time! Fully serviced with good shops, bars,
restaurants, garages, medical cover and both primary and secondary
schools, Son Ferrer is a quiet backwater, and still just about 4 minutes
in the car from the coastline.
The County has recently announced that permission has been granted for
the construction of a new, major Theme Park just outside of Son Ferrer.
This will mean, of course, that property prices will soar in the area with
such an important, multi-million euro investment right on the doorstep.
Son Ferrer and the close-by El Toro, therefore, now offer cast-iron, blue
chip investment opportunities for the very near future!
