Santa Ponsa & Costa de la Calma
The Santa Ponsa area has developed
naturally over more than 40 years to become one of the most sought-after
areas in which to own in the South West of the Island. There is a big
selection of properties here, from cozy studios to 2 & 3 bedroom
properties in new, exclusive developments with apartments, townhouses and
villas, right on up to very exclusive, million-euro plus villas high above
the bay.
Santa Ponsa town is built around a wide, blue bay – the bay in which,
it is widely accepted, the christian King Jaume 1 landed in 1229 and
marched his army into Palma, (along what was later to become Avenida Jaime
1,) and defeat the ruling Moors. The day is enthusiastically celebrated
every year in September with colourful, lively parades & fiestas, to
which Mallorquines, Spanish, foreigners and tourists are unequivocally
invited to join in the fun and party till daybreak. (The local chemists
bring in extra stocks of aspirin & paracetamol for the event!) The
livelier side of the town lies on the North side of the bay, while the
Southern shore is much more residential.
The town is basically open for business all year and fully serviced by
excellent supermarkets, shops, restaurants, golf clubs and all the
amenities one would expect. Santa Ponsa's premier attraction is,
naturally, the bright, friendly offices of Mallorca Hot
Property........... on the roundabout in front of the big
beach............
'Costa de la Calma' means ' Coast of the Calm' – and that's just what
it is. This backwater of Santa Ponsa is completely residential and the
quiet streets and lanes are populated, in the main, by villas rather than
apartments. The area is quite big and it can take between 5 minutes and 30
minutes to walk into Santa Ponsa centre.
